- The purpose of this study was to develop, assess, explore and identify the effects on the Liberian Civil War on selected young Adults Family Cohesion and Social Support systems. A total of thirty young adults within the Liberian community in the U.S.A. were asked to participate in this study. A descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The data were collected by completion of a self-report scale designed to measure the individual's perception of their family environment. The Instruments utilized were the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale (Table III). Adapted from Dr. David H. Olson in 1986, and 'Young Adult Social Support', adapted from Dr. Hamilton McCubbin in 1984. The Findings of the study rejected the hypothesis that there will be no statistically significant relationship between the young adult family cohesion and social support systems.
