- This study examined the effects of using relaxation therapy on a divorced female to provide a method of reducing stress. The subject of this study was a white female who was monitored for 12 weeks concluded by a follow-up home visit. The instrument used in the study was a 25-item, self- administered questionnaire which was adapted from the Walmyr Assessment Scales Scoring Manual by W.W. Hudson entitled 'Index of Clinical Stress' (ICS). The analysis was completed utilizing the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences X (SPSS X). The cognitive intervention theory was applied to help the client see reality as accurately as possible. This theory assists the client in setting goals that could be used to measure progress, relaxation and assertiveness training and daily task assignments. The results indicated the level of stress
