- Description:
- The overall objective of this study was to examine the relationship between self-esteem and illness behavior of African-American women with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. To attain this objective Lupus support group members were studied. Convenience sampling was used in the study. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Instrument and the Illness Behavior Inventory were administered to female members in a local church, at their homes, by fax, by mail and by telephone, in the local Atlanta area. A population of 20 African-American women participated in the study. The Pearson R analysis was used to test for relationship (correlation) between self-esteem and illness behavior. The results of the Pearson R Analysis showed that r value= -.3534 and the probability =.126. With these results, the null hypothesis was accepted. The study revealed that there was no statistical relationship (correlation) between self-esteem and illness behavior.
