- Description:
- The objective of this study is to explore the possible effects and influence that violent television shows and movies have on the behavior of youth, especially high school students. In order to achieve this objective, this study obtained information from 35 high school students regarding the types of television shows and movies they view, hours spent viewing violent media, and violent behavior exhibited at school. This information was obtained by utilizing the cross-sectional survey design and the stratified sampling method. The final analysis was computed using the SPSS Computer Program. A Pearson r bivariate analysis was computed to test for correlation between the independent variable and the dependent variable. The results of this study indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between violent behavior in high school students and exposure to media violence. There is also a significant correlation between violent behavior and the number of hours spent viewing violence in the media.
