- Description:
- This study is concerned with leadership for creative learning integrated with music. A survey-descriptive study was conducted to assess and compare Georgia curriculum supervisors perceptions of integrating music into core areas for middle grades to positively influence learning. One hundred and fifty-four (154) of Georgias curriculum supervisors responded to items on a survey questionnaire on Integrating Music Into Core Areas. The One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) technique was applied to compare differences in perceptions by major background subject area regarding five variable constructs of the questionnaire. Perceptions reported were favorable on an average and above average basis regarding each variable. However, significant differences in favorableness were found for the following variables: self-esteem, creative thinking skill, motivation, and problem-solving skill. Communication skill reported no significant differences in perceptions. Utilizing descriptive statistics, narrow and wide differences were also found between proportions of supervisors perception scores indicating readiness and resistance to integrating music into core areas of middle grades according to all demographic considerations compared. Statewide, a significant number of Georgia curriculum supervisors indicated readiness to provide leadership in implementing the idea. These findings are consistent with findings from recent literature. Music has been found to positively influence learning by contributing significantly to the attainment of the following core goals of learning: building self-esteem, developing communication skill, developing creative thinking skill, providing motivation for learning, and developing problem-solving skill. Therefore, Georgia curriculum supervisors should provide leadership for creative learning integrated with music to positively influence learning in middle grades.
