- The time-independent, cubic Schrodinger equation cPu . l2 5?+ |u| u = 0- has solutions that are complex functions of the variable x. Using a polar representation, we show that all nontrival solutions are bounded and oscillatory. The method of harmonic balance is then applied to construct an analytic approximation to these solutions.
