- The overall objective of this study was to identify the importance of maternal bonding during infancy and childhood as it relates to self-esteem in adulthood. To obtain this objective the following areas were addressed: (1) maternal bonding and, (2) self-esteem in adults. A correlational design was used in this study. A self administrated questionnaire was given to members within an organization at a Afro-American church in Atlanta, Georgia. This study was an attempt to identify the relationship between maternal bonding during infancy which affects adult's self-esteem.
