- The overall objective of this study examined the extent to which individuals in the social work and judicial systems share similar beliefs about offenders and victims of child sexual abuse. It reported an inquiry into the attitudes of the five professional groups within an urban criminal justice system specific to credibility of victim, culpability of victim and of the offender, crime severity, and the punishment of the offender. The five groups were social workers, judges, public defenders, district attorneys, and police officers. The findings of this study revealed there were no significant differences on the attitudes toward credibility of victim, culpability of victim culpability of the offender, and severity of crime. However, there was a significant difference of attitudes toward punishment of the offender.
