- Description:
- The objective of this study was to examine the impact of a support group on the self-esteem of AIDS patients. To accomplish this objective, an AIDS support group and non-support group were studied. A convenience sampling technique was used. The participants consisted of twenty-four males. In the support group there were 5 blacks and 7 whites, and in the non-support group there were 12 whites. A modified self-esteem instrument adopted from the Research Issues 12 Handbook was administered to both groups. To test for the difference in self-esteem between the groups, a t-test was employed. The result of the t-test analysis showed t = 1.38, dif =22, P < .181. with these results, the null hypothesis was accepted. The study did not find any statistical significant difference between the support group and non-support group with reference to their self-esteem.
