- No phase of English or European history is more interesting than that which deals with imperialism. And no phase of English imperialism is so fascinating as that which has as its goal the maintenance of the British life line to India. In the following pages a study has been made of British policy in Egypt, the country which is all important in this life line. The study is based on the British Documents on the Origins of the War. Volumes I, II, III, and V have furnished the materials incorporated in this paper. The events beginning with the Reconquest of the Sudan in 1898, through the Anglo French Entente in 1904, and ending with the Sinai Border Controversy with Turkey in 1946, are covered by these volumes. For material on the events prior to 1898, books on Egypt, Abyssinia, North Africa, and the biographies of some of the participants in the events cited have been used.
