- Description:
- In this sermon, delivered on April 10, 1962, Dr. Henry Bullock, a minister from Mississippi, describes the de-emphasis of the Bible when he was matriculating through theological studies. In his ministry, he came to the understanding that it was important for clergy to understand and articulate how to hear the word of God through the Bible to lay persons. He conveys his message by giving four simple rules, using Biblical figures (Jacob, Solomon, and Noah) as examples, and sharing personal stories for the purpose of relatability. Within this sermon, he talks about his own college dating experiences and his son. He also speaks about how the state of Mississippi specifically used Genesis 9:21, the story about Biblical figure Noah being drunk and God punishing him, to fit the racial prejudices of the time.
