- Description:
- In this video, Fuji singer Sefiu Aiao talks about his work for the campaign of a state governor in Nigeria. For the 2015 election cycle, the incumbent governor of Ogun state in Nigeria, Ibikunle Amosun, hired Aiao. Unlike many Fuji singers based in Lagos who convey a certain cosmopolitanism, Aiao rejects modernity and the draw of the megalopolis, choosing to stay in Abe?okuta, the capital of Ogun state. In this interview, one can observe the exchange between art patronage and political patronage: the politician patronizes the musician financially, the musician patronizes the politician by attracting his audience as voters. Ibikunle Amosun was reelected as governor of Ogun state in April 2015.
