Mattie Pearl Rhodes was born in Johnson County, Georgia on September 16, 1936. She was the fourth of seven children born to the late Ed Kirkland and Pearlie Mae Smith Kirkland. Four of her siblings preceded her in death. The family moved to Atlanta when Mattie Pearl was a young girl. She was educated in the Atlanta Public School System. Mattie Pearl was a fun loving person. She enjoyed life to the fullest. She never met a stranger and would open her doors to anyone in need. I want my momma back. I want her here with me. But I know God has taken her to Heaven. The place she needed to be. She is a very special person, to everyone she knew. She was loving, caring, giving, and there is nothing that
she wouldn't do. She stole the hearts of everyone she touched. My momma knows she is already missed very much. God has taken a very special angel to do a bigger job.
He knows she is fully qualified, because she has an extremely big heart. She isn't gone for good--as a matter of fact
you can hear her voice if you try. Talk to her anytime and she will still reply. She is not there in the flesh, but forever in our hearts. It's not "Good-bye," but "See you later,"
because we are not apart.
Love, Your Children

We thought of you with love today. But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday, and days before that, too. We think of you in silence; We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories, and your picture in a frame. Your memory is our keepsake of which we'll never part. God has you in his keeping. We have you in our hearts.
We love you and will truly miss you . Love,
Your Grandchildren

Words cannot express the love we feel in our hearts. We express our thanks to neighbors and friends for their thoughtfulness and comforting messages extended to us. The prayers, food, flowers and all other kindnesses will always be appreciated. We will forever be grateful to God for giving us faithful friends during the illness and loss of our precious loved one. May God grant each of you his richest blessings.
