Description
This diverse collection of photographic prints, lithographs, and cased images include a wide spectrum of images relating to diverse topics. The oldest images feature portraits of prominent men and women in Ante-bellum Atlanta and scenes from the aftermath of the Civil War. Street scenes and photographs of neighborhoods capture the physical development of the city between the 1870s and the 1980s and include images of Atlanta landmarks in downtown Atlanta and surrounding counties. The collection captures notable events such as the premiere of the movie Gone With the Wind, presidential visits to Atlanta, and a dinner honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. after he received the Nobel Peace Prize. Hundreds of images portray homes in Inman Park, Grant Park, Ansley Park, Buckhead, and other neighborhoods. Other photographs include images of William Hartsfield, Margaret Mitchell, Joel Chanler Harris, Franklin Roosevelt, Robert W. Woodruff, and Lemuel Grant., The Atlanta History photograph collection contains 4500 black and white and color photographic prints, cased images, negatives, and lithographs, 1000 of which are digitized and available on this database.
