Description
Ledger documenting the African American freedmen and women cared for by Dr. Joseph Barnett Carlton in his Athens, Georgia medical practice. Dr. Carlton was a graduate of the University of Georgia and Medical College in Augusta, and served as a surgeon in the Toombs Regiment for the Confederacy during the U.S. Civil War. Dr. Barnett additionally served in both the Georgia House and Senate. He died February 3, 1881. Funding for this project provided by Georgia HomePLACE, a unit of the Georgia Public Library Service.
