Its origins lie in the personal bodyguard of King Charles I of England and Scotland. Its lineage can be traced back to 1642, although it was only placed on the English Establishment (thus becoming part of what is now the British Army) in 1686. It is the oldest formed Regiment in the Regular Army, more so than any other in the Household Brigade. This card is one of a series of 82 depicting statuettes made in the 1930s.  They were replicas of the carved wooden models designed by Charles d’Orville Pilkington Jackson (1887-1973) for the opening of the Scottish United Services Museum in 1933.
