It is believed to have been created by a local foundry and is approximately 16-feet in height and weighs roughly 5,700-pounds. Text on reverse: The University of Georgia, established by Legislative Act in 1785, is the oldest charted state university in the United States. Beginning with a gift of several hundred acres of land, it has grown through the years to a Campus of nearly 4,000 acres. From an attendance of 38 students the first year, its enrollment has increased to around 7,000. The main Campus of the University has many beautiful buildings and is located near the center of Athens.
