David Boyd spent his early years in Washington, Georgia, and moved to Newnan in 1965 to take a job as executive director of the local chamber of commerce. His cartoons first appeared in the Newnan Times-Herald and have since been published in 200 newspapers in 46 states. Most of his work has been sharp political commentary, and neither Democrats nor Republicans have been spared his incisive wit. Boyd has also worked with comedian Jeff Foxworthy and currently lives in Newnan.; Interviewed by Mel Steely on September 18, 1998 at Boyds home.; The first three minutes of the interview, there is some microphone interference, but the answers are mostly clear. Boyd describes his childhood in Washington, Georgia and his high school experiences, including how he developed his sharp wit and comedic skills. He attended the Citadel for college, and calls it a "romantic, rich experience." He then discusses his time in the Army, and then begins to move into how he honed in his artistic talent and began drawing professionally. He talks about drawing political cartoons and how he chooses his subjects. Boyd also answers questions about how he came to work with famous names like Lewis Grizzard and Jeff Foxworthy, including a golf trip to Scotland.
