TODAY! During the past 30 years, Southwire Company has hired hundreds of young men and women from colleges and universities spanning the nation. Among these are a considerable number of graduates of West Georgia College, a veritable wealth of creative talent. These WGC graduates now work in almost every phase of Southwire's operations - from management to metallurgy, finance to foreign languages, employment to economics. At Southwire, West Georgia grads serve in communications, purchasing, sales, and research and development. Many have bachelor's degrees, and an equal number have obtained master's degrees. It is through the constant supply of fresh ideas furnished by the graduates of our colleges that Southwire Company has continued its remarkable growth in the past three decades. Because of this, we strongly support our educational system as the basis of successful private enterprise and constantly search for keen professionals to fill available jobs. Pictured here are a sampling of West Georgia College graduates now working in various capacities throughout the company. Ken Marlow - Assist. Therefore, this, my final duty, is made simpler. There is but a handful of people to thank. First, to Professor Bill Doxey I owe deepest gratitude. He refused to let the CHIEFTAIN die and he never let me give up. Doxey's wife, Lyndall, began pinch-hitting in our ad sales "department" and worked hard to provide the bulk of our advertising sales revenue. Roxy Sherrill, our sole darkroom technician, saved our hides by processing and printing those 600 pictures. I'm very grateful to her. Another big thank you to Jerry Mock and Jane Bentley of the Learning Resources Center who provided equipment and darkroom facilities. Yvonne Parrish helped schedule the scores of organizations for photo appointments. Those who took or provided pictures include Tony Boatright, Carroll Publishing Company, Curtis Cox, David Edwards, Glovis Gore, Donna Jeter, Dan Minish, Marcia McCrory, Bob Owen, David Parkman, Dr. Bobby Powell, Roxy Sherrill, Tracy Tate, Betty Walker, the WEST GEORGIAN, and Darrie Wohlman. To a cooperative and understanding faculty, thank you for putting up with inconveniences and, in the case of many faculty members, for going all out to facilitate production. To Mel Caraway, infinite gratitude for his help with budget matters, and to Polly Gosper, Mel's secretary, thanks for taking messages for us. And to the most helpful and patient man on earth, Ross Henderson of Walsworth Publishing, thank you for guiding another new crew through to another yearbook. And students, this is as varied a representation of our campus life as our miniscule staff could make it. If you want improvements, it's your book and there's always next year. If you can find the time, join the staff!
