Early was interviewed by Fran Lane on March 22, 2007. After the January 1961 desegregation of the University of Georgia by Charlayne Hunter and Hamilton Holmes, Mary Frances Early transfered as a graduate student in music education from the University of Michigan to the University of Georgia. On August 16, 1962, she became the first African American to graduate from the school.
