The first song, "Tom Watson," is named after a sheriff, Tom Watson Anders, who served in Franklin County circa 1958. The song was used during Watson's campaign, with different lyrics. Cawthorn says that brush arbor meetings used to take place in the region. They are not held any longer because no one attends them, but Cawthorn enjoyed them. The meetings included preaching and shape-note singing. Her mother bought their family an organ, which Cawthon played more than anyone else in the family.
