This is a three-story stucco-over-brick structure featuring a central rotunda and a massive Ionic portico. Four columns support a pediment framing the entrance to the mansion. It is considered one of the finest examples of Greek revival style in the nation. Construction on the mansion began in 1836 and was completed in 1838 or 1839.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:relation>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/history-archaeology/old-governors-mansion</dc:relation><dc:relation>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/education/georgia-college-and-state-university</dc:relation><dc:relation>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/arts-culture/early-victorian-architecture-overview</dc:relation><dc:relation>Forms part of: New Georgia Encyclopedia</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/UND/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/history-archaeology/old-governors-mansion</dc:source><dc:source>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/education/georgia-college-and-state-university</dc:source><dc:source>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/arts-culture/early-victorian-architecture-overview</dc:source><dc:source>Forms part of: New Georgia Encyclopedia</dc:source><dc:source>Photograph by Ralph Daniel</dc:source><dc:subject>Greek revival (Architecture)--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Pediments--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Porticoes--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Columns--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Governors--Dwellings--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Official residences--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Dwellings--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Historic buildings--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Buildings--Georgia--Milledgeville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Old Governor's Mansion (Milledgeville, Ga.)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Milledgeville (Ga.)--Buildings, structures, etc.</dc:subject><dc:title>Old Governor's Mansion</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
