This structure was originally designed as the Yaraab Temple by the architectural firm Marye, Alger, and Vinour. The building opened as a theater in 1929. Its cream- and buff-colored ribbons, arched doorways, minarets, and domes all combine to make the Fox an architectural illusion--lending it the appearance of a cluster of small buildings. In reality, the Fox is one cohesive building, broken up by balconies and stairways leading to various zones of the theater, which occupies the larger part of a midtown city block. A lone minaret guards the southwest corner, styled after the prayer towers of Islamic mosques.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:relation>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/arts-culture/fox-theatre</dc:relation><dc:relation>Forms part of: New Georgia Encyclopedia</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/CNE/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>http://www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/arts-culture/fox-theatre</dc:source><dc:source>Forms part of: New Georgia Encyclopedia</dc:source><dc:subject>Theaters--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Buildings--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Domes--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Minarets--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Historic buildings--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Marquees--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Fox Theatre (Atlanta, Ga.)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Architecture, Islamic--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Atlanta (Ga.)--Buildings, structures, etc.</dc:subject><dc:title>Fox Theatre</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
