Construction on the four-story Second Empire-influenced building began on April 1, 1896. The auditorium was completed within a year and dedicated on May 21, 1897. In 1978 the building was named to the National Register of Historical Places.Brenau was founded in 1878 as a small, private institution for the education of women.
