Ridge (also known as Cheesquatalawny and Yellow Bird), considered the first Native American novelist, was born near New Echota (near the present city of Rome) on March 19, 1827. The four leaders were marked for execution by members of the John Ross party in 1839. All but Stand Watie were killed, and twelve-year-old John Rollin Ridge witnessed his father's murder.</dc:description><dc:description>GSE identifier: SS2H2</dc:description><dc:format>text/html</dc:format><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:relation>Forms part of the New Georgia Encyclopedia.</dc:relation><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Forms part of the New Georgia Encyclopedia.</dc:source><dc:subject>Ridge, John Rollin, 1827-1867</dc:subject><dc:subject>Authors, American</dc:subject><dc:subject>Novelists, American</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indians of North America</dc:subject><dc:subject>Cherokee Indians</dc:subject><dc:subject>Indian authors</dc:subject><dc:title>John Rollin Ridge (1827-1867)</dc:title><dc:type>Text</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
