The State of Georgia Art Collection is one of the largest collections of works of Georgia artists in the state, with over 600 pieces to its credit. The collection stems from the simple desire to expose citizens of all ages and backgrounds to the works of Georgia artists. In 1969, the Georgia Art Bus Program got its start when the former Georgia Commission on the Arts (now the Georgia Council for the Arts) organized a program to purchase and exhibit the work of living Georgia artists and make their work accessible to children and the public around the state.
