In order to avoid violence and looting, the Georgia National Guard kept a vigilant watch both day and night over the storm area. On Sunday, a count of automobiles showed that 1,500 automobiles an hour came into Gainesville on the main highway. It was estimated that 300,000 people visited Gainesville on that Sunday.
