She attended Spelman College in Georgia as an undergraduate, graduated from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas as a master’s student, and received J.D. from the Yale Law School. Abrams worked as Deputy City Attorney for Atlanta, and then began entrepreneurial ventures, including a consulting firm and a financial services firm. Abrams has been recognized by multiple organizations for leadership and entrepreneurship. She has represented Georgia’s 89th District in the Georgia House of Representatives since 2007, and has served as House Minority Leader since 2011.
