He recalls working with Charles Helms, Tom Houck, and Zell Miller. Ebersole recalls being appointed Director of the Senate Research office as well as working on Zell Miller's 1980 Senate campaign. Ebersole comments on Miller's change in rules and committees and Miller's relationship with Speaker Tom Murphy. He recalls his friendships with Hank Huckaby, Culver Kidd, and Tom Allgood. Ebersole notes Zell Miller's career-long commitment to education and his dedication to keeping the state budget lean. Ebersole comments on Miller's ability to pass bills and promote tax cuts. He recalls Miller's work with the lottery and Miller's relationship with Denmark Groover. Ebersole recalls the Miller's goal of establishing the food tax exemption, the HOPE Scholarship, and Preservation 2000. He discusses his opinion of party politics in Georgia and his wife Sarah's work as a press secretary for Miller while he was lieutenant governor. Daniel Ebersole was born in Pennsylvania. In 1974 he moved to Atlanta to work as a volunteer aide to Atlanta city council member, Charles Helms. Through Helms he met Zell Miller, with whom he would have a long relationship. He worked on Miller's campaigns for lieutenant governor and U.S. Senate against Senator Herman Talmadge in 1980. From 1980-1990 he was a policy analyst and director of the Georgia Senate Research Office. In the 1990s he was deputy director of the Office of Planning and Budget and Senior Executive Assistant to Governor Zell Miller. Ebersole has also been the commissioner of the Georgia Merit System.
