She recalls becoming involve with the Freedom to Grow Unschool, an alternative school for children ages 6-12 in Hull, Georgia, first as intern, then as co-teacher, and ultimately as director of the school. She discusses the challenges she encountered as director, her philosophy regarding alternative education, and the current scope of the alt-ed movement in the United States and abroad.</dc:description><dc:description>Lora Smothers was born in Florence, Alabama, and earned her bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Emory University, and earned a master's degree in gifted education from the University of Georgia.
