Battle, born in 1918) was a foreign affairs specialist, He served at the Department of State from 1946-1949. He served as Special Assistant to Secretary of State from 1949-1953 and 1961-1964. He also served as Executive Secretary at Department of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs, 1962-1964 and was the first Secretary at the American Embassy, Copenhagen from, 1953-1955. He served as Deputy Secretary, NATO, Paris, France from 1955-1956; as Ambassador to United Arab Republic, from 1964-1967; as Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs from 1967-1968. He also served as the U.S. Ambassador to Egypt and President of Foundation for Middle Eastern Peace.</dc:description><dc:description>Related collections in this repository: Thomas J.
