ATFA DIRECTORS AND MEMBERSHIP MEETING April 21, 1999 The annual meeting of the American Turpentine Farmers Association Directors and Membership was held on Wednesday, April 21, 1999 at the ATFA Office, McRae, Georgia. The meeting began at 10:30 a.m. with the following Officers, Directors, Members and guest present: Alton Carter Jim L.Gillis, Jr. Grady Williams Travis Cook Jim.L.Gillis, III Alan Hodges Ed Herbert Wesley Hartley Red Castleman Bill Barrett Chris Nail Lloyd Rogers Tommy Loggins Howard Davis President Gillis called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. Grady Williams, Secretary, read the minutes from last meeting. There were no additions or corrections and a motion by Director Carter, seconded by Director Cook to approve minutes. The motion was unanimously approved. Jimmy Gillis, III, Treasurer, presented report with $2,987.11 in checking account. Financial records were available for review. Alan Hodges from the University of Florida who is involved in gum naval stores research with the Georgia Forestry Commission and ATFA presented a program on the progress of his work with the bored hole method with mechanized tractor mounted power drilling machine. There was a general discussion with much optimism being expressed. President Gillis expressed appreciation to Dr. Hodges for his work on this project and was hopeful that he will continue his work on this research. President Gillis expressed appreciation to Tommy Loggins and the Georgia Forestry Commission for their support of gum naval stores research. The Directors discussed the topic of supplying sulfuric acid to gum producers. Grady Williams was aked to check with Charlie Grimsley and come up with a way to furnish the chemical to producers. President Gillis announced that Officers are to be elected. A motion by Alton Carter, seconded by Travis Cook to nominate:the following: Jim L. Gillis, Jr., President; Travis Cook, Vice President; Jimmy Gillis, Treasurer; Grady Williams, Secretary. The Motion passed. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
