Built circa 1813, the Adam Strain Building is Georgia's oldest commercial building, and one of the last tabby structures standing in Coastal Georgia. Tabby is a construction medium developed by enslaved Africans that incorporates pieces of oyster shells, lime, sand, and ash into the mortar mixture. After the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation named it one of its "Places in Peril" in 2008, the building was ultimately restored in 2024, a joint effort between Ethos Preservation, Landmark Preservation, building owners Marion and Milan Savic, and Lominack Coleman Smith Architects. Recipient of the Georgia Trust for Preservation's 2025 Marguerite Williams Award. Variant names include: Adam Strain Building.
