The growth pull, however, has been much stronger in some directions than in others. Especially has there been a strong pull to the north and east which, taken together, attracted a population gain of more than 212,000 persons. Relative population gains in various parts of the metropolitan region are depicted on this map. The center octagon roughly approximates a 37-square-mile area which, prior to 1952, was the City of Atlanta. The radial bars represent suburban population growth in eight directions out from the old city.</dc:description><dc:description>Atlanta standard metropolitan statistical area: population-housing</dc:description><dc:description>atlpp0014</dc:description><dc:description>Locations: Fulton County (Ga.) -- Atlanta (Ga.)</dc:description><dc:format>application/zip</dc:format><dc:format>application/vnd.google-earth.kml+xml</dc:format><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:language>eng</dc:language><dc:publisher>Georgia State University Library</dc:publisher><dc:rights>https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/</dc:rights><dc:subject>Population</dc:subject><dc:title>Directions of Growth: 1960 to 1969, Atlanta (SMSA)</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
