The Photograph Collection includes the following IAMAW-related subject matter: Locals, Districts, Officers, Anniversaries, Conventions, Conferences, Ladies Auxiliary, strikes, the Machinists Non-Partisan Political League, and Machinists at work on trains, tanks, aircraft, missiles, etc. Additional subject matter includes the AFL-CIO, other unions, union/labor leaders, world leaders, political figures, religious leaders, current events, and celebrities. Of note are extensive files on Gerald Ford, Hubert Humphrey, missile construction, the Convair Corporation, the Machinists Non-Partisan Political League, and the Ladies Auxiliary.The United Machinists and Mechanical Engineers of America was founded in 1888. In 1889, the name changed to the National Association of Machinists.
