Opening 3

"No one lives in this room without confronting the whiteness of the wall
behind the poems, planks of books, photographs of dead heroines.
Without contemplating last and late the true nature of poetry.
The drive to connect. The dream of a common language. "

-Adrienne Rich

The drive to connect, the dream of a common
language, a common ground. ...We claim
LaGrange College as our common ground, our
community, separate from the world at large.
Within this community we each go about our
individual business, viewing the world from
unique angles. What is it that makes our ground
common, that binds us in this community?

In our attempt to find an answer, we turned

several members of the LaGrange College
community and gave them cameras. We asked
these people, our I.C.P.'s [Independent Camera
People], to show us a day in their lives,
picturing our common ground.

PROG1TAMS

LaGrange College played an important
role in the 1996 Olympic Games that were
Atlanta. Over 275 Olympic athletes and
their trainers from all over the world came
to LaGrange to prepare for the Olympics.
The LaGrange Sports Authority arranged
for over 14 countries to come to LaGrange
to train. LaGrange College provided
shelter, food, facilities and assistance to
make it all possible.

Dean of Students Nancy Alford and Dr.
Adolfo Benavides, Professor of Business
Administration and Economics, served as
torch bearers when the torch passed
through LaGrange on July 17.

Several other members of the adminis-
tration, faculty and staff played important
roles in the Olympics as interpreters, event
volunteers and filling staff positions.

Randstad Staffing Services also pro-
vided jobs for many students at the
Olympics.

Being so close to the Olympics has
been a great experience for many of the
students at LaGrange, allowing them to
exchange ideas with athletes from all
over the world. The students featured in
the Coca-Cola billboards were especially
honored. There were 70 billboards
erected by Coca-Cola, three of which
featured LaGrange students Tommy
Asinga, Michelle McGruder, Dario Clem-
ent, Barnabe Jolicoeur, Ruth Mangwe,
Tina Paulino, Stephen Lugor, Whitaker
Bowman, Tracy Sellars, Steven
Gresham, Andrea Boyd, Carolyn Watts,
David Bonner and Richie Matthews.

Colophon

The 1996 Quadrangle was printed by the Delmar Company of Charlotte, North Carolina with a press run of 600 copies. Our Delmar representative and staff
cheerleader was Lisa Heiser. The book is 9" x 12", 176 pages, and is printed on eighty-pound gloss paper. It is smythe sewn, rounded and backed, using 160 point binder's
board. The cover is printed using a four-color litho process with an additional metallic pantone color for the lettering. Cover scans and film output by TR Digital
Productions in Atlanta, Georgia. The endsheets are printed solid in Pantone 8860C. Sixteen pages of the book are four-color.

The book was produced on Macintosh computers using Adobe Pagemaker. All text is set in variations of either Adobe Garamond or Helvetica. Additional copies of the
Quadrangle are available through the Office of Student Development, LaGrange College, 601 Broad Street, LaGrange, Georgia, 30240.

Student mug shots were photographed by Jan Overton of Delmar Photographic Studios in Atlanta. Special thanks for photographic contributions go to the ubiquitous
Natalie Heard and April Purcell and their "Day in the Life" photo crew, John Lawrence for his photographs of the campus in the springtime and of Olympic racewalkers,
Multi-Image Studio of LaGrange for their aerial photograph and their perpetual patience, and an enormous hip-hip-hooray to Kevin Heiser of the Heiser Group for his
skilled darkroom work.

Special thanks to our ICPs (Independent Camera People): Karen Albornoz, Read Blumberg, Marcia Brown, Vee Brown, Christophe Cure, Dr. Michael Frassetto, Ryan
Hancock, Tiffany Miller, Dr. Walter Murphy, Kevin Neely, Erin Schwartz, Carey Tafi, Cynara Webb, Elske Wortman, and Terrell Yelding. All other photos were taken by
the Quadrangle staff.

1996 Quadrangle Staff: Michael "Duck" Haggerty (Editor-in-Chief), Ahna Paul (Managing Editor), Celeste Edison, Justin Cohen, Bradley Sherwood, MikdiAjlen,
Derek Bell, Laroyd Boyd, and Marcia Brown(Advisor). V M
