He recalls his time as a Navy recruiter and volunteering for duty in Vietnam because he felt a responsibility toward his recruits who were sent there. He describes his work in a small branch office of the Navy's oceanographic service in a small village outside Saigon. He remembers many incidents during his time there, including being wounded and the death of a 19-year-old fellow sailor during an ambush by the Viet Cong. He recalls later duty on the USS Saratoga in Vietnam and lists other duty stations during his naval career. He describes his family, including his daughter's education and family.
