When he first tried to enlist before the attacks on Pearl Harbor, he was turned down because of a problem with missing teeth. After the attacks, that was no longer an issue and he was accepted into the Aviation Cadet Corps. He was placed in a College Training Detachment, where he studied meteorology, aircraft maintenance and theory of flight. After thirty-five missions, he and his crew became members of the "Lucky Bastard's Club."</dc:description><dc:description>William Bramlett was a pilot with the Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II.</dc:description><dc:format>video/quicktime</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Veterans History Project oral history recordings</dc:source><dc:source>Veterans History Project collection, MSS 1010, Kenan Research Center, Atlanta History Center</dc:source><dc:subject>Messerschmitt Bf 109 (Fighter plane)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Norden bombsight</dc:subject><dc:subject>Incendiary bombs</dc:subject><dc:subject>V-mail</dc:subject><dc:subject>Submarines (Ships)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Depth charges</dc:subject><dc:subject>Statue of Liberty (New York, N.Y.)</dc:subject><dc:subject>Liberty ships</dc:subject><dc:subject>Pullman cars</dc:subject><dc:subject>Korean War, 1950-1953</dc:subject><dc:subject>Mustang (Fighter plane)</dc:subject><dc:subject>A-26 Invader (Bomber)</dc:subject><dc:subject>World War, 1939-1945--Personal narratives, American</dc:subject><dc:subject>Sachtjen, John W., 1921-1998</dc:subject><dc:subject>Robelio, Arty</dc:subject><dc:subject>Lurtz, Jon W., 1920-1972</dc:subject><dc:subject>Wilcoxson, Chester E., 1917-1984</dc:subject><dc:subject>Doan, Francis Elonzo, 1917-2011</dc:subject><dc:subject>Vennis, Steve, 1923-1993</dc:subject><dc:subject>Keck, Harry T.</dc:subject><dc:subject>Morrison, Daniel G.</dc:subject><dc:subject>George VI, King of Great Britain, 1895-1952</dc:subject><dc:subject>Elizabeth II, Queen of Great Britain, 1926-</dc:subject><dc:subject>University of Tennessee, Knoxville</dc:subject><dc:subject>Lockheed Aircraft Corporation</dc:subject><dc:subject>Douglas A-26 Invader (bomber)</dc:subject><dc:title>Oral history interview of William Clyde Bramlett</dc:title><dc:type>MovingImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
