He describes his interest in world affairs leading up to the war and his desire to go to Europe. He recalls his training, voyage and arrival in Plymouth (England). He describes the structure of his division and details their fight through France, crossing the Rhine into Germany and Czechoslovakia. He states that when he was stationed at Brandenburg an der Havel, they were guarding Germany's rocket research records when the Navy came and took them all; General Patton was upset about it. He spent time in the Army and Air Force Reserves after the war.</dc:description><dc:description>William Martin was in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II.</dc:description><dc:format>video/quicktime</dc:format><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Veterans History Project oral history recordings</dc:source><dc:source>Veterans History Project collection, MSS 1010, Kenan Research Center, Atlanta History Center</dc:source><dc:subject>World War, 1939-1945--Personal narratives, American</dc:subject><dc:subject>Ardennes, Battle of the, 1944-1945</dc:subject><dc:subject>Simpson, William Hood, 1888-1980</dc:subject><dc:subject>Devine, John Matthew, 1885-1971</dc:subject><dc:subject>United States.
