In 1941 he was nearly elected to the position of Dean of Men at Georgia Tech by the board of regents, at the suggestion of Governor Eugene Talmadge. Talmadge was at this time placing people in the University system who would not try to racially integrate the colleges. Brittain, who had built up Tech's reputation over the prior 19 years.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>VIS 82.38.04</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>ahc082038004a.jpg</dc:identifier><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Kenneth Rogers Photographs, Atlanta History Center</dc:source><dc:subject>Sports--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Football--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Football players--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Athletes--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>College administrators</dc:subject><dc:subject>Universities and colleges--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Alumni and alumnae--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Barron, David Irenus, 1900-1982</dc:subject><dc:title>Barron, David Irenus "Red", circa 1946</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
