The city is situated on the site of an old Indian village, and the city's name means "earth green there" in Cherokee. The Cherokee Indians had lived on the site until they were removed to Oklahoma in 1838. Ellijay is also nicknamed "Georgia's Apple Capital", and hosts an annual apple festival in October.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>VIS 82.397.01</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>ahc082397001a.jpg</dc:identifier><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Kenneth Rogers Photographs, Atlanta History Center</dc:source><dc:subject>Mills--Georgia--Ellijay</dc:subject><dc:subject>Millers--Georgia--Ellijay</dc:subject><dc:subject>Waterwheels--Georgia--Ellijay</dc:subject><dc:subject>Water power--Georgia--Ellijay</dc:subject><dc:title>Ellijay Georgia</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
