A founding date for the parish (originally called "The Catholic Church") has not been determined. The original structure was built on the corner of Lloyd Street and Hunter Street in 1848, but since that time, the street names have changed to Central Avenue and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, respectively. After suffering damage during the Civil War the parish built a new structure at the same location in 1869. The church was renamed on behalf of an oil painting of the Immaculate Conception that was hung behind the altar of the newly built church and dedicated as such in 1873.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>VIS 132.12.01</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>ahc132012001a.jpg</dc:identifier><dc:publisher>Frances Outlar Photographs, Atlanta History Center</dc:publisher><dc:subject>Churches--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Religious architectural elements--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Religious facilities--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Bell towers--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Automobiles--1950-1960</dc:subject><dc:subject>Vehicles--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Trucks--1950-1960</dc:subject><dc:subject>Capitols--Georgia--Atlanta</dc:subject><dc:subject>Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (Atlanta, Ga.)</dc:subject><dc:title>Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
