Lee and Jefferson Davis carved into its face. The carving was conceived by Helen Plane in 1909, and carved by several artists whose work was subsequently removed from the mountain. In 1964 Walker Hancock took up the carving and it was completed by Roy Faulkner in 1970. The state purchased Stone Mountain in 1958 and it is now a state park.</dc:description><dc:format>image/jpeg</dc:format><dc:identifier>VIS 112.59.08</dc:identifier><dc:identifier>ahc112059008a.jpg</dc:identifier><dc:publisher>Atlanta, Ga. : Kenan Research Center, Atlanta History Center</dc:publisher><dc:rights>http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/UND/1.0/</dc:rights><dc:source>Atlanta Blue Print and Graphics Company Photographs</dc:source><dc:subject>Mountains--Georgia</dc:subject><dc:subject>Carving--Georgia--Stone Mountain</dc:subject><dc:subject>Stone carving--Georgia--Stone Mountain</dc:subject><dc:subject>Parks--Georgia--Stone Mountain</dc:subject><dc:title>Stone Mountain</dc:title><dc:type>StillImage</dc:type></oai_dc:dc>
