In 1885, he began practicing law in Atlanta, Georgia, and later served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1888 to 1893. He then became solicitor general of the Chattahoochee Judicial Circuit and later became judge of the Superior Court of the same circuit. In 1916, he was appointed justice of the Georgia Supreme Court and served in that capacity until 1937.
