Lee</dc:description><dc:description>General Robert Edward Lee (1807-1870) was born in Virginia. He graduated from West point, second in his class, in 1829. In 1852 he became superintendent of West Point. He was offered field command of the United States Army in 1861 but resigned when Virginia seceded from the union. He became Commander-in-Chief of the Army of Northern Virginia and was named General-in-Chief of the Confederate Armies in 1865. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S.
