He began his career as a music conductor in New York in 1907. He moved to Atlanta in 1920 to conduct music at the new Howard Theater. From 1920 to 1930 he conducted the first Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. From 1939 to 1945, he served as the director of the Brenau Music Conservatory in Gainesville, Georgia.
