On December 1, 1880 he defeated H. I. Kimball to become mayor. He served as president of the American Trust and Banking Company and also for twenty-four years on the board of directors of the Central of Georgia Railway Company. Judge William T. Newman (1843-1920) was a Confederate war hero and a U.S. District Judge from Atlanta, Georgia. He married Fanny Percy Alexander, a direct descendant of the founder of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the son of Henry Baker Newman of Tennessee. Biographical information about Col. Robert J.
