He was a partner in the insurance firm of Purdue and Egleston, which represented the Hartford Fire Insurance Company. Egleston underwrote major construction projects in Atlanta, invested his profits well and became one of the South's first millionaires. In addition, he served several terms as president of the Southeastern Underwriters Association.
