As this exciting, new learning environment develops at Piedmont College, you will see in your courses an increased application of computer-assisted instruction. Our faculty is becoming more informed about interdisciplinary study and more attuned to sophisti- cated and creative delivery systems. Students' needs are also changing, for the average age of our student popula- tion is increasing as people spread their education over a longer period of time. As these changes raise the cost of providing quality education, colleges must meet the challenge and discover new sources of financial aid from both public and private sources. While such transitions in higher education may produce an impersonal learning environment at some colleges, Piedmont College is committed to preserving interaction between faculty and every student on campus. We believe personal, individualized atten- tion to the students' investment of time and intellectual talent will provide the necessary preparation for our ex- tremely complicated world. As Pied- mont College promised its students almost 100 years ago, we provide four years of exceptional education in a Christian, caring community. The faculty and I will do everything we can to maintain this long-standing tradition. Our doors are always open. IX. Piedmont College's unique blend of students, faculty, and staff gives the college an atmosphere where education, both in and out of the class- room, flourishes. The state of mind on campus is in constant motion. As the year progresses, the balancing act between classes and extra- curricular activity becomes more difficult. In spite of the stresses of college life, the Piedmont community has learned that through laughter and friendship anything is possible. Seniors Marcy Cincotta and Liz Kelly have found the perfect balance be- tween study, leisure, and friendship. Students such as Fairlight Dover are always proud to share accomplish- ments with mom and dad. The festive activi- ties last well into the night and are interesting topics of discus- sion during the first week of classes. Students move into their rooms fall semester and soon after call their new quarters home. Oft any given night, the residents of Getman-Babcock Hall can be seen lounging on the couch, talking with friends in the Gazebo, or yes, even studying (for one of Dr. Pleysier's tests, of course). Purcell residents, on the other hand, take advantage of being close to the athletic fields by playing a game of volleyball or shooting hoops in their very own parking lot. W/CtLLCtCC residents find ways to occupy themselves as well. The smell of fresh food cooking on the apartment stoves often brings the other dorm students out to either sample the fine Wallace cuisine or to survey the damage.
