Men and women of good will gathered teachers, textbooks, and eager learners in 1 897 to found Piedmont College and to share knowledge, culture, and religious faith. We endeavor in 1 971 to follow these major objectives. Inviting young people to attend a private college has always been the extension of a privilege which cost the institution more than it charged for the total services rendered. We continue this American tradition of free enterprise in a gift supported college. Likewise the young people who come to our campus from Appalachia and the far corners of the globe all enjoy the freedoms of coming, or leaving, and living within the codes of freely accepted regulations. his year the college's freedo ts personnel was challengecHby < ./ho sought to demonstrate that he ght to enter a dormitory < js regardless of the cq| ration ! s announcemertt that and social attitudes wr acceptable eorgia conTirme at an independent ual person, enjoys the igenial persons and ding other visitors who do not measure up o the school's standards. 1 1 eedom to aco theprivile^bofj 9 g^ *" r> ^V" "7 *: -JW- v . ; 5 v, #$ * * . In the teachings of Jesus we are taught this practical dimension of life in the simple reminder "By their fruits shall ye know them." A person and his Alma Mater are known 'By their fruits." I rejoice in the adundant evidence that Piedmont College graduates make good in the art of living creatively and constructively. -ri. * * : ;; \~ it *.3i^ HM m * ' ' ] h Our qraduates continue to be most welcome in the graduate schools of the greal universities in our nation. Our business administration majors are successful in establishing their own companies, and they are sought out for employment by the largest corporations. Our graduates who have been trained as elementary or high school teachers never lack for opportunities to use their talents. Our college faculty members have a right to feel proud of "their young people.' 99 Richard Taylor A.B., Piedmont College A.M., East Carolina Univ A.B.D., Univ. of Virginia Mrs. Taylor, Leila, Emma 4Bik" v 1 wta 3^ 1. >ft; t ! ^%f^^ <^U ^Pl * I John B.
